I hope you have completely recovered from the illness from which you were suffering when I called at your office in August. I was very sorry not to see you personally. However, your assciate was very kind in showing me the collection of flutes. I was greatly interested in the various specimens, some of which are of great historical value. A few days later, in München, I had the pleasure of visiting with Mr. Frank. He showed me your letter. I am very glad to send you today a copy of the catalogue of the Stearns collection of Musical Instruments, belonging to the University of Michigan. This is the second edition of 1921, and is the latest edition to be issued. I think this is the book in which you are interested. Please accept it with my compliments.

I am sending you a photograph which gives a general view of my collection of flutes as it was about two years ago. About 800 specimens are shown. At the present time the collection consists of 1050 specimens. If you have a photograph of the flutes in your collection, I would be very glad indeed to receive a copy of it.

I am sending you a list of the makers of flutes who are represented by instruments in my collection. I noticed one instrument in your collection by a maker who is not represented in my collection. It is a flute of the old System, made by Peter Weber of München, and I think it is No. 69 in your catalogue. I know that you have said you did not wish to sell your instruments except for the collection as a whole. I would very much like to have this particular flute. Its chief interest to me lies in the fact that it is by a maker not now represented[.] Would you consider an offer of $50.00, equal to 200 marks, for this particular flute.
